Alderney, Guernsey, Herm, Sark, and some other smaller islands have a total area of 30 square miles (78 km2) and a coastline of about 30 miles (48 km). By itself, the island of Guernsey has a total area of 25 square miles (65 km2). Guernsey is situated 30 miles (48 km) west of France's Normandy coast and 75 miles (121 km) south of Weymouth, England and lies in the Gulf of St Malo. Lihou, a tidal island, is attached to Guernsey by a causeway at low tide. The terrain is mostly level with low hills in southwest.
Elevation varies across the bailiwick from sea level to 375 ft at Le Moulin on Sark. The highest point in mainland Guernsey is Hautnez (363 ft), in Alderney at Le Rond But (306 ft), in Jethou (248 ft) and Herm (322 ft). Natural resources include cropland.
Guernsey contains two main geographical regions, the Haut Pas, a high southern plateau, and the Bas Pas, a low lying and sandy northern region. In general terms, the Haut Pas is the more rural of the two, and the Bas Pas is more residential and industrialised.
There is a large, deepwater harbour at St Peter Port. The Casquets, a group of islets, are notable for the lighthouse facility constructed there.

Saint Clement
Saint Clement (Jèrriais: St Cliément) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is in the south east of the Island, and contains some of the suburbs of Saint Helier. It is the smallest parish by surface area, but the second most densely populated. St. Clement stretches west to east from Le Dicq to within a quarter mile of La Rocque harbour (at the end of Rue de la Lourderie). Its surface area is around 1,044 acres.

Green Island
Green Island or La Motte is a tidal island in the parish of St Clement on the south-east coast of Jersey (Channel Islands)
It is situated near the sea shore and is accessible at low tide but visitors to the Island need to be careful not to be cut off by the incoming tide. The island has a grassy surface and is predominantly clay surrounded by rocks. In recent times efforts have been made to preserve the Island by the construction of walls.
At low tide around Green Island are various rocks which are interesting to explore.
Herm
Herm (Guernésiais: Haerme) is the smallest of the Channel Islands that is open to the public. Cars are banned from the small island just like its Channel Island neighbour, Sark. Unlike Sark, bicycles are also banned. However, Herm does allow quad bikes and tractors for the locals.

Little Roussel
The Little Roussel, also known as the Petit Ruau or Little Russel, is a channel running between the isle of Herm and Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
The main harbours of Guernsey and Herm face into the Little Roussel. There are many small rocks in the channel, including Hermetier, Castle Cornet (now joined to the mainland) and others.
The Herm ferry, from St Peter Port Harbour runs across the Little Roussel.

Castle Cornet is a large castle in Guernsey, and former tidal island, which is now part of one of the breakwaters of St Peter Port's harbour, the main one in the island.

Formerly a tidal island, like Lihou on the west coast of Guernsey, it was first fortified as a castle between 1206 and 1256, following the division of the Duchy of Normandy in 1204. In 1339 when a French force captured the island and occupied it for several years, Cornet was besieged, captured and the garrison massacred.
With the advent of cannon and gunpowder, the castle was remodelled between 1545 and 1548.
It served as official residence of the Governor of Guernsey until 1672 when the keep was catastrophically destroyed. A bolt of lightning struck the magazine of the castle, destroying the keep and a number of living quarters.http://guernseymansions.blogspot.com/
George Métivier
George Métivier (1790–1881) was a Guernsey poet dubbed the "Guernsey Burns", and sometimes considered the island's national poet. He wrote in Guernésiais, which is the indigenous language of the island. Among his poetical works are Rimes Guernesiaises published in 1831. Métivier blended together local place-names, bird and animal names, traditional sayings and orally transmitted fragments of medieval poetry to create these.

Saint Peter Port
Saint Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey as well as the main port. In Guernésiais and in French, historically the official language of Guernsey, the name of the town and its surrounding parish is St Pierre Port. The port distinguishes this parish from Saint Pierre Du Bois.
As well as being a parish, St. Peter Port is a small town consisting mostly of steep narrow streets and steps on the overlooking slopes.
The post code for addresses in this parish starts with GY1.
People from St. Peter Port, were nicknamed "les Villais" (the townspeople) or "cllichards" in Guernésiais.

The Channel Islands (Norman: Îles d'la Manche, French: Îles Anglo-Normandes or Îles de la Manche) are an archipelago in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They include two separate bailiwicks: the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey. According to the official website of the British Monarchy, they are British Crown dependencies, but neither is part of the United Kingdom; rather they are considered the remnants of the Duchy of Normandy.
